Energy Savings with Proper Energy Management
The Building Automation System (BAS) had improperly programmed schedules and thresholds along with malfunctioning communication lines. This caused the schools HVAC system to revert to factory default settings, which resulted in the school’s utility bills to run more than double of other schools of similar size. Malfunctioning sensors and subroutines caused heating coils to energize to full capacity while in cooling mode.
Star Service, at no additional cost to St. Mary’s, installed control boards in each unit that were programmed with customized schedules and override pushbuttons for temporary, off-schedule cooling needs. We also repaired sensors and implemented new Energy Management subroutines, which would prohibit the system from simultaneously heating and cooling.
In the first year of the implementation of our Energy Management Services, the school saved more than $63,000 and reduced their energy consumption by 40%, compared to the previous year’s utility bills. The savings are being re-allocated to scholarship funds for potential students.
